At NOT A HOTEL, each house is equipped with a sauna. Here, we introduce the recommended way to use the sauna, especially for beginners.
*Some houses do not have a sauna. Please check the availability in the AMENITIES section of the app.
1. Temperature settings for sauna and water bath from Home Controller
You can set the temperature to your preference from the home control on the key screen of the iPad or app provided. For first-time users, we recommend setting the sauna at 80°C and the water bath at 16°C.
*It takes time to reach the desired temperature, so please set it well in advance. There is no need to turn it off during your stay.
*Some houses require operation from the control panel provided, not from the home control panel on the keypad screen of the iPad or apps provided.
2. Use the Sauna
The sauna room is extremely hot, and entering it when your body is cold can be taxing. It also takes longer for your body to warm up thoroughly. Make sure to warm your body well in the bath before entering the sauna.
The recommended time in the sauna is 5-10 minutes. The heat promotes blood circulation, relaxes muscle tension, and has a detoxifying effect through sweating.
*Be sure to stay hydrated.
*If you feel unwell, exit the sauna and rest immediately.
*Avoid using the sauna after drinking alcohol or if you are feeling unwell.
3. Use the Cold Bath
After warming up sufficiently in the sauna, cool your body in the cold bath. When entering the cold bath, do not immerse your whole body at once; start with your hands and feet.
Stay in the cold bath for 30 seconds to 2 minutes. The cold bath causes the capillaries to contract and improves blood flow, providing a refreshing effect.
*Avoid if you feel any strain on your heart.
*You can enjoy it even on rainy days.
4. Enjoying the Outdoor Air Bath
Don't forget to hydrate. Sit and relax on the chairs placed on the terrace. Outdoor air bathing helps regulate your autonomic nervous system, stabilizes blood pressure, and enhances the refreshing effect.
*Be careful not to let your body get too cold, and make sure to hydrate well.
*You can enjoy it even on rainy days.
💡 What is "Totonou"
In sauna terminology, "totonou" refers to a state of being mentally and physically aligned, experiencing deep relaxation, lightness of body, and mental clarity.
Also known as sauna high or sauna trance, it is similar to runner's high or meditation, enhancing concentration and reducing stress.
5. Repeating the Cycle
We recommend repeating the cycle of sauna → cold bath → outdoor air bath three times. This repetition promotes better circulation and fatigue recovery, enhancing both physical refreshment and relaxation.
